Goal/beliefs & value: Life is a journey of unlearning and relearning. As children, we are typically raised to live our lives a certain way. However, as we grow and gain life experience, we may find ourselves holding onto beliefs that no longer serve us. I believe in the importance of empowering oneself and cultivating a growth mindset. Being open is the first step toward self-empowerment and self-improvement. In therapy, clients are encouraged to explore themselves with openness and vulnerability. To support this process, I strive to provide a safe and collaborative space and to be warm, genuine, compassionate, open-minded, and respectful in my practice. I believe it is an honor to be part of my clients’ journeys of growth and healing. Thus, I aim to ensure that my clients are supported holistically and in the ways they need, as long as it is within my professional means.

Word by MHP: Healing is not a destination; it is a daily journey toward betterment that requires conscious effort and commitment. There will be ups and downs, as it is not always straightforward and not entirely pleasant. However, growth often requires stepping out of one’s comfort zone, and the joie de vivre that tends to come along makes it worth the while.

Barbara Lim Xuan Teng (Child Psychology Trainee), a passion driven and inquisitive person. Lim works with children and parents to support the child’s developmental growth. In 2019, Lim started her career as a Special Education Teacher for two years after she graduated from Upper Iowa University, IA, USA in 2018 with a BSc. in Psychology and Communication. Her final year project was “The Differences in Psychopath killer and Non-Psychopath killer”. Lim believes that there are reasons a child behaves certain ways as they develop physically, cognitively, and emotionally. Lim volunteers in JoyClub ministry at Petra Gospel Center. She is one of the committee leaders to lead, guide spiritually, and support children with learning difficulties. She works with children who have learning difficulties of age 15 to 35. Two years later, Lim decided to pursue a Master’s Degree in Child Psychology at UCSI University. She is currently working as a Program Coordinator in a daycare for special needs. Lim’s role in the centre is to help the centre to restructure, support the teachers, give suggestions, write monthly reports of each student, and also supports parents to build better and stronger bonds with their children. She is also a core team member of SkyBi and has been with the team since February 2021 when they began the project. Lim believes that every child is precious and no one should discriminate and label each individual.

Goals & belief/ values
I invite you to consider with me that life is like a bed of roses—beautiful and thorny. Like the thorns existing to aid the survival of the roses, unpleasant life events and experiences can help us make choices that bring out the beauty in life. Through my experience working with young people and adults, I’ve seen many neglect their mental and emotional needs, believing that to acknowledge them was to show a lack of faith, whether in God or themselves. Our journey together has shown me that many of us strive for control to live “problem-free”. Yet, problems are resolved when we choose to make effective changes to things that we can control, and let go of the things beyond our control.
I aspire to create with you a safe space where you feel seen, heard, and validated to reclaim your life and be your authentic self. Together we will explore how your past experiences have influenced your present situations and discover ways for you to develop psychological flexibility and resilience to embrace living life to its fullest. Reaping the rewards of therapy takes time. As we explore your concerns, moments of discomfort will eventually be replaced with feelings of freedom and restoration, with the hope that you continue trusting the process alongside me.
