What is the difference between “I love you” and “I like you”? ‘Liking’ and ‘Loving’ are both related to communication, interaction, and attachment between two people. ‘Love’ and ‘Like’; both words start with letter L, they may seem the same, but the feelings that one bearing is totally different.

According to the Dating Relationship Coach Monica Parikh, she mentioned that liking someone, or being fascinated by them, happens quickly. However, loving someone is a slow process that is being built on a healthy foundation.

You are easily attracted to someone who is good looking because of his/her charming eyes, body shape, wealth, intelligence, or humour, then this is considered like. Love goes beyond a person’s physical appearance; it does not look at the physical aspects. Love is unconditional and more profound, leading you to know each other more meaningful and long-lasting.

When you like someone, you tend to control your behaviour in a specific manner, and you will present your best side to another self. You will keep worrying about what you need to do for that person to like you, and eventually, you will hide your inner self. You will be more self-conscious in front of him/her. You care so much about how the person looks at you. However, love is not like that. You will not hide your true self from him/her. You want him/her to see who you are, and you will not want to deceive him/her. Loving someone is more about accepting all their strengths and weaknesses. You will have a companion living together with you no matter what.

The excitement of being with someone you like only lasts for a short term period. You will start dreaming and creating a false image of this person, which often will not last long. While loving someone allows you to look forward to future life. A meaningful relationship is there, and you want to spend the rest of your life with him/her. You will do some planning with him/her about the future life goals. It can be said that like is emotion-based while love is decision-based. When you like someone, you see the person in your dreams; when you love someone, you see the person in your future.

If you like someone, you will feel easy to get over once the relationship is over. You will not take a long time to get over it, it is easy for you to move on. Eventually, you will continue with your life and not think about him/her. Loving someone is the opposite of that. You will take a very long time to forget him/her. It is difficult to move on if someone you loved hurts you. The pain is intolerable, and you will feel empty inside.

Look at the differences between like and love, and evaluate what you feel for someone. It is useful to understand the differences between like and love as it benefits you in realizing your true love. You will clearly know what you want for your heart’s desire and thrive for it.
