Are you OVERTHINKING?

Here are some questions for you. Are you spending your free time recalling the hidden meaning behind things people had said or events that had happened?  Are you spending your time worrying about the future everyday? Are you struggling in decision making? Are you having difficulty sleeping at night? Do you find yourself having trouble in work life, social life, and other aspects of life? If this sounds like you, you may be plagued with OVERTHINKING!

Overthinking is when you constantly rethink about the same thing over and over again; like a vicious cycle. Overthinking is one of the issues that affects your daily progress from mentally, emotionally and also physically. It causes a decline in mental health. Overthinking can lead to unnecessary stress, worry, and anxiety. Do not panic! Take a deep breath…

Ways to overcome:

  1. List it down

First thing first, get a notebook that is specifically just for thoughts. List down what bothers you in  point form. Write in specific details of each thought that bothers you. By asking yourself what you need to fulfil, you need to know precisely what needs to be done in your plan. This is to ensure that you know what to do and how to solve the issues. Next, come out with a solution that is practical for you to have a clearer picture of the situation. In this scenario, Max is constantly thinking of Lily because Lily is constantly looking at him but not talking to him in the school. Max finds a time and a place to have a talk and confront Lily regarding what bothers him.

  1. Keep yourself busy

YES. You saw it. Keep. Yourself. Busy. Sometimes our mind will generate thoughts when we are too free. We will scroll our phone to keep ourselves up-to-date regarding other people’s life or isolate ourselves from society. Set your schedule right and do something you love. Distract yourself into happiness. This helps to relax the mind from stressing so much on one thing.

  1. Let go of the past

The hardest thing for people is to let go of the past. When we did not perform well in the past, we always think over and over again about it. We always blame ourselves for not doing the best for our past, things that should have been done but never turned up. When this is happening, we will have some racing thoughts in our mind which affects us in overthinking. The past cannot be changed, but we can learn from the past, accept it and learn from the lesson. When we accept the past, we will find ourselves relieving from that burden, and we will not think over and over again.

Take a deep breath and tell yourself: “I can do this!”

Overthinking does not have to be a way of life for you. Remember, do not let your thoughts distract you from getting things accomplished. Minimizing the worries and living your life happily!
